Dubbed ‘The Real Mas’, Mas Domnik attracts revellers from far and wide to witness a dazzling display of social solidarity and a cultural explosion of music, art and dance.
The pre-Lenten festivities first started by the Catholic Europeans in the 1970’s have evolved dramatically. What began as a tradition of wild costume festivals and carousing by freed slaves celebrating their freedom through masquerade, dancing and singing in the streets soon became a fundamental aspect of carnival, as it was a rare opportunity for revellers to celebrate a culture uniquely their own.

The chosen theme of Mas Domnik 2018 is, “Celebrating Our Tradition”. This theme encompasses the fact that our Carnival is extensive in terms of the traditional aspects it presents. However, due to the passage of hurricane Maria, we are restricted in our ability to produce the event in its usual magnified version..Nevertheless we invite Dominicans both here and overseas to remain true and embrace our Carnival Traditions in its original and contempory forms.Be enticingly spontaneous!

It’s about rebuilding and revitalizingand an acknowledgement that the cultural industries are a bonafide means of stimulating economic activity.
